Because colleges receive thousands of application each year, it is advisable to take any chance you have to stand out. Submitting optional material is a way to show admission officers any other talents or experiences that you didn't have space to include in your application. If you are also available for an interview, you should try to do one. This allows the officer to understand you better and know the kind of person they are allowing into their institution.
Note: because there are thousands of applications, that also means your optional material might not even be viewed by the officers. Don't let this discourage you though, just in case.
